GETTING THERE

10 to 12 months: The Beginning

Congratulations! At this point it is best to start a wedding file, decide on a date and a venue. Then you can tell your close family and friends. At this point you should discuss an estimated budget for your wedding.

There are plenty of month by month guides available on the "net". I have also put together a couple of documents that you can download here.

8 to 10 months: Book photographer

Your favorite venue and photographer are two of the things that are irreplaceable. That's why it is very important that once you have found your favorite venue/photographer, you should book it with no delay.

Take a look at what different photographers can offer you and once you find photographs and a style that you feel identified with, contact the photographer to check for avaialbility and to make an appointment.

If you plan to marry in the busy season (between may and september) then the sooner you contact your venue and photographer, the higher your chance of having your wedding your way.

6 to 8 months: Engagement session

This 1 to 1.5 hours photo session will take place on your favorite outdoor (sometimes indoor) places anywhere in Calgary, Banff, Waterton, Jasper, Canmore, or any other place of your preference in a National Park in Alberta or BC where I provide my services. This is a wonderful opportunity to get to know each other. Once you see how we work, it will be easier for you to deal with a camera pointing at you on your wedding day. That will result in more natural photos, where emotions take over self-awareness.

An engagement session also provide an excellent opportunity to have professional photos done in places that are important to you but that you might not have a chance to include in your wedding day. Very often, couples decide to make a guestalbum with the engagement photos.

4 to 5 months: Guestbook is ready

This is an exciting period. You are going for the final dress fittings, you are ordering your wedding invitations, and the guestbook with your engagement photos is ready to pickup or deliver.

1 to 2 months: Last "minute" details

Sometimes plans need to be changed. Sometimes because of the weather, sometimes because the schedule itself needs to be altered a bit. At this point you or your ceremoniemeesters should let me know what is the final schedule of your day and all the details, all the where's, when's and how long's should be addressed.

If you haven't filled out the wedding survey, this is the perfect time to do so and send it my way.

Your wedding day!

This is a day for you to enjoy and celebrate. Let others take care of it. Your bridal party, your photographer(s), musicians, hired staff, etc... they all know what their function is and you should just go with the day.

Today, you are not supposed to be in charge of anything except for enjoying it with your partner.

Let it happen!

3 to 5 weeks: Photos are ready

You will be provided a link to a private gallery where you can see your wedding photos. You can share this link with family and friends if you wish. This is particularly good when you had friends coming from far away. Every photo in your gallery is carefully edited. Color correction, exposure correction and some black and white and sepia conversions are included. Some basic editing is also included.

Along with the email with the link to your wedding photo gallery, you will get an invitation to join me to go through your photos together in a color calibrated environment and discuss some possible changes to them. Sometimes you wish to remove some unwanted mark or feature or perhaps you really want a particular photo with a different treatment.

This is also a great opportunity to select the prints included in your package and select quality prints in different formats, like canvas and modern fine art mounting. Please check the prints and albums page to see what options are available.

In this 1 to 2 hours consultation, you will have the chance to select the photos you want to include in your wedding album.

6 to 10 weeks: Album draft and approval

After selecting your album style from our catalogue and the photos to include in your album, we will prepare a design for you. You can, again, visit us to discuss the details or from the comfortness of your house you can go over the album design. Once you approve the design of the album, it is sent to one of our professional album makers (depending on what type of album you selected).

3 to 4 months: Album production and delivery

Once I receive your album and inspect it for quality control, I will let you know that it is available for pick-up or delivery. I prefer to do this in person since this is a very important moment for both of you and for me as your photographer.

FAQ

Are you the right photographer for us?

To select your photographer you need to look around, check different websites and styles. What is it that you are looking for? Candid and nondisruptive images of your day? Fashion style images? Classic images?

After you narrow it down to 3-5 photographers that are available on your date, contact them and schedule and appointment. It is important that you feel at ease not only with your photographer style but also with the photographer him or herself. Then you'll have an opportunity to see some work finished and some products (prints, canvas, albums) as well as whole weddings. He will be responsible to capture your wedding day, to give an image to your memories.

I strive in creating images that are unique to you and your wedding. In our consultation I'll have the opportunity to see what details make your wedding unique. I approach Wedding Photography in the same manner I aproach Fine Art Photography. I make of each wedding a unique project and try to create photography that would separate my work from that of others. For a bit more info please check this page.

Unique moments deserve unique photography.

What type of photography do you do?

I try to photograph your wedding as it flows, as I see it, from the quite and special moments of your ceremony to the energy-full moments of your party, or the uniqueness of your first dance or your first kiss as husband and wife, and always attent to the details that make your day special.

My style during the day will changes depending on the location, the moment and the "feeling or dynamic" of the wedding.

During the ceremony and the reception, for example, I try to be as non-intrusive as possible, trying to capture the emotions of the day in a photo-journalistic style. During the formals, I will move between a traditional photography approach and a modern photography approach. It will depend on what I see that day, what type of wedding you have and on what reflects better the story of your wedding day. I will, however, call you aside some times if I see an opportunity for a unique photo and want to make sure it is not lost.

This is in part why the selection of your photographer is so crucial, you need to trust your photographer's vision of your day. It is not something you can simply order. Your photos are going to be created on the spot (and later on postproduction).

How much coverage do we need?

That is completely up to you. It depends on how you scheduled your day.

I, however, prefer to cover your day from the getting ready to at least the first dance. It is the only way to show the story of your day. Depending on your schedule, that could be anything between 6 and 12 hours. It is the only way to make both of you, and those close to you, live the day again. Remember that, hopefully, you have only one wedding. Make sure everything, including your photography is great.

Do you do destination weddings?

In a word: Yes!

I love to travel and I have shot weddings from the hilly vinyard fields of British Columbia (Canada) to the streets of The Netherlands (Holland). I have been priviliged with covering weddings in the heart of the Canadian Rockies in Banff National Park and in the always awake streets of Amsterdam.

Please contact us for availavility and for a customized offer. You can also check our destination wedding page for more information

Please check also this page for a bit more info related to this and other topics

What happens if you cannot make it?

The chance for me missing a wedding is really slim, but there is always the possibility of a major traffic accident, fire, or any other tragedy. In this event, I will first try my best to make sure that another photographer with a similar style to mine covers your day. If that is impossible, all I can offer is a full refund and a complimentary 2-hour photo session of your choice (subject to availability).

What happens if I change/cancel my date?

If I am available on your new date then I will simply re-book you for the new date. If I have already other arrangements for your new date, I would be happy to recommend other professional photographers in the area.

If I had to decline services to another client due to our previous booking then I will refund all the moneys except for the booking fee. If I had no other inquires for that particular date, I will be happy to make a full refund.

Do I need an engagement session?

You don't really need one but, as mentioned earlier, an engagement session is a great opportunity to get to know each other (in front and behind the camera). If the engagement shoot is the first one you have with a professional photographer, then you'll also see what is involved and will get wonderful photos to share with family and friends.

You could use the photos to create a guestalbum for your wedding or to make your own invitations.

Are you available on our date/location?

We work out of Calgary. But I constantly travel for assignments out of the country (mainly to Europe)
You can go to our Contact Page and fill out the form there or you could simply send me a quick email to info@unveiledphotography.nl with your wedding date and location and I will come back to you as soon as possible.

You can also check this page for more information and cities covered.

Do you also photograph other events?

Yes, I do. I particularly enjoy newborn photo sessions. I also photograph maternity and family sessions. For more info on this and on commercial photography and corporate events, please check the main photography services page or select other services from the main menu.

Is there a consultation included? How much does it cost me?

In one way or another, I will do my best to meet with you before your wedding. Sometimes, due to my schedule and constant travels that is not that easy. Usually, I book all my weddings online and we meet when an opportunity opens up for both of us.

What are your rates?

Investment for weddings' commissions start at $1500.00 including a Hi-Res DVD.

For a personalized package (à la carte) or for destination weddings, please contact us.

For especial offers, please contact us directly.

Can we order a wedding album with you?

Yes, please visit the 'Wedding Albums and Prints' page for more information on options and styles.

What other products do you have?

We love seeing our work printed, it is the reason to be of photographs. I offer:

1- Albums
2- Prints on archival paper (framed or not)
3- Metallic prints
4- Prints on canvas
5- Acrylic prints

For more details, please visit my 'Wedding Albums and Prints' page page.

Do we need a second photographer?

That is completely up to you. Sometimes, however, it is good to have a second photographer. This allows the main photographer to have a bit more freedom and creativity while the second photographer captures the "most-have" shots. For example, if you and your partner are getting ready at the same time and far away from each other, a second photographer would allow for both events to be captured and hence have a more complete story of your day in your album.

A second photographer doesn't have to be hired for the whole time contracted to the main photographer.

Do you offer video services?

I personally prefer to focus on your wedding. However, I know some talented videographers that would love to be part of your day.

You can see a video sample in the 'Wedding vendors, make-up and video' page.

Do you know a good make-up artist?

If you are having troubles finding a good make-up artist, I will be happy to recommend a few that I have worked with in the past, with international experience including, New York, Paris, London and Amsterdam.
